Difference between 1.54 in Concrete Calculations & 1.33 Calculations in Mortar
Concrete has dry and wet volumes when formulated in quantity calculation of cement, sand, and aggregate is known as concrete calculation.
When you obtained your degree in civil engineering, you may have wondered how to calculate 1.54 in Concrete when determining the quantity of cement, sand, and aggregate to use.
Concrete's wet volume can be converted to its dry volume by using a factor of 1.54. By converting wet volume to dry volume, we get a 54 percent increase in dry volume. So we can calculate how many materials are dry.
Define 1.54 Concrete Calculations?
A dry concrete mix has a dry volume of 1.54, which means that after water is added, it has about 54 percent less volume.
- Dry Volume = 54 percent of wet volume + wet volume
- Dry Volume = (54/100 * 1) + 1
- Dry Volume = 154/100 + 1
- Dry Volume = 0.54 + 1
- Dry Volume = 1.54
To make 1 cubic meter of wet mix concrete, we need 1.54 cubic meters of dry mix.
Total Volume of concrete = Dry Volume of concrete * Wet Volume of concrete
Mathematical Solution of 1.54 Concrete Calculation
In order to understand, let's take a concrete cube with dimensions as length, width, and height.
- Concrete Cube Length = 10 meter.
- Concrete Cube Width = 6 meter.
- Concrete Cube Height = 8 Meter.
- Wet Volume = length * Breadth * Height.
- Wet Volume = 10 * 6 * 8.
- Wet Volume = 480 meter cube.
- Dry Volume = 54 percent of wet volume + wet volume.
- Dry Volume = 54/100 * 480 + 480.
- Dry Volume = 259.2 + 480.
- Dry Volume = 739.2 meter cube.
Define Wet Volume of Concrete?
Material mixtures are in wet condition when they are in wet volume. For Concrete = cement + fine aggregate + coarse aggregate + water. For Mortar = cement + fine aggregate + water.
Define Dry Volume of Concrete?
Mixtures of dry materials have a dry volume. For concrete = cement + fine aggregate + coarse aggregate. For mortar = cement + fine aggregate.
Distinguish between dry & wet volume of Concrete
When water is applied to a dry mix, the volume is reduced by a certain percentage after the water is applied.
Define Concrete: Construction materials such as concrete are made of cement, fine aggregates, and coarse aggregates mixed with water and hardened over time. A common type of cement used in concrete production is Portland cement. The study of concrete properties and its practical applications is the basis of concrete technology.

A building's foundation, columns, beams, slabs, and other load-bearing elements are constructed with concrete. Apart from cement, other types of binding materials are used, such as lime for lime concrete and bitumen for asphalt concrete for roads.
Define 1.33 in Mortar?
Dry mortar mix has a volume of 1.33, which means it reduces by approximately 30% to 35% after adding water. As a result, you can take the common number as 33%.
- Dry Volume = 33 percent of wet volume + wet volume
- Dry Volume = (33/100 * 1) + 1
- Dry Volume = 33/100 + 1
- Dry Volume = 0.33 + 1
- Dry Volume = 1.33
- So, for one cubic meter of wet mix mortar, 1.33 cubic meters of dry mix is needed.
- Total Volume in Mortar = Dry Volume in mortar * Wet Volume in mortar
