How to calculate excavation work & determine its cost

Rate assessment of excavation within/in earthwork is the criterion of magnitude of excavation to get conducted, the outlay of machineries, equipment, as well as labours needed in respect of the same.

The outlay of excavation is determined by the excavation’s depth, sort of soil, technique of excavation to get conducted as well as the span wherein the excavated soil needs to be removed.

The outlay of all those are included with regard to excavation’s unit volume to obtain the excavation’s rate.

In the construction guide, one is going to get to be acquainted with the technique needed for computing excavation work as well as its outlay.

Specified underneath, stepwise procedures:

Initial measure:

Find out volume – Assume, the excavation work is carried out for four columns having the same dimension length wherein the columns’ footing is five feet, width is five feet as well as depth is four feet.

As a result, the volume is going to be computed in the following way:

The computation is carried out on the basis of the subsequent information –

L is equal to 5 feet
W is equal to 5 feet
Depth is equal to 4 feet

Volume is equal to Length x Width x Depth = 5 x 5 x 4 = 100 ft3

Since there are four footings with regard to column, volume of four footings is going to be computed in the following way –

4 x one footing’s volume
4 x 100 = 400
As a result, overall volume = 400 ft3

Next measure – outlay of excavation work

Assume, the outlay of excavation = 20/cubic feet
It indicates one cubic feet is equal to 20/Rs
As a result, overall cost/price is equal to 20 x overall volume
Overall cost/price is equal to 20 x 400 = 800
