Some Vital Tips to Calculate the Cutting Length of Square or Circular Stirrups
In that construction video tutorial, one can understand the procedure for figuring out the cutting length of stirrups in several forms such as square, rectangular or circular.
Assume the dimensions of a square shaped stirrup are as listed below:
Length is equal to 300 mm
Breadth is equal to 400 mm
Diameter of steel bars is equal to 8 mm
Clear span of the concrete cover is equal to 40 mm
The distance out of outer face to middle position is equal to 44 mm
Assume the dimensions of a square shaped stirrup are described hereafter:
External diameter of the column is equal to 600 mm
Diameter of steel bars is equal to 8 mm
Clear span is equal to 40 mm
Computation of the cutting length of the rectangular column
Size of the column is equal to Length x Breadth is equal to 300 x 400 mm
Column length (A) is equal to 300 – (2 x 44) is equal to 212 mm (concrete cover’s clear spanwith regard tothe two sides)
At this point, length is contemplated from the middle of a bar to other. Therefore, the bar’s diameter must be divided by 2 that is 8/2 is equal to 4. Furthermore, it is going to be included with clear span of forty mm that is 40 + 4 is equal to 44 mm
Column breadth (B) = 400 – (2 x 44) = 312 mm
Hook length is equal to 10 x D = 10 x 8 = 80 x 2 = 160 (since there’re 2 hooks)
Stirrup’s cutting length = (A x 2) + (B x 2) + Hook length (breadth and length are considered with regard to 2 sides) is equal to (212 x 2) + (312 x 2) + 160 = 1208 mm = 1.208 m (post changing to meter)
The same formula is going to berelevant for finding out the cutting length of square stirrups.
Computation of the rectangular column’s cutting length:
Column diameter = 600 mm (it is the exterior diameter from face-to-face)
Stirrup diameter center to center is equal to 600 – (2 x 40) – (4 + 4) is equal to 512 mm (concrete cover span for the two sides; half of the diameter of the bar for the two sides)
Stirrup parameter = πd = 3.142 x 512 is equal to 1608.704 mm (the value of pie = 3.142)
Hook length = 10 x D = 10 x 8 = 80 x 2 = 160 mm (hook length computation formula = 10D)
Stirrup cutting length = stirrup parameter + hook length is equal to 1608.704 + 160 = 1768.704 mm = 1.768 m therefore, stirrup cutting length with regard to circular column is equal to 1.768 m
