How to Calculate Load on Column
In the construction section, you’ll be acquainted with the processes needed for computing the loads that function on beam, column, slab and wall in a structure.
The overall weight of wall, slab and beam is carried through the column and shifted towards foundation.
Specified subsequently, the information regarding the sorts of loads functioning at the column:-
The column self weight x Overall quantity of floors
Beam own weight for each going meter x overall beam length
Wall load for each running meter x overall quantity of meters with regard to wall construction
Overall loads functioning on slab which include dead load (created for keeping furnishings and additional things), live load (created for person travel), own weight and more.
Regardless of aforementioned loads, the bending moment even functions on beam, column, slab and wall. That must be considered in concluding design.
Dimension of loads on column
Concrete self weight is 2400 kg/m3 [240 KN]
Steel self weight is 7850 kg/m3 [8000 kg/m3 nearly]
Assume, the column size is 230 mm x 600 mm possessing 1 percent steel and 3 m criterion height.
As a result, the concrete volume = 0.600 x 0.23 x 3 = 0.414 m3 (concrete density).
= 993.6 = 994 kg (nearly)
As a result, steel weight (1 percent) of concrete volume
= 0.414 x 8000 mg/m3 x 1 percent (0.01) [steel density = 8000 kg/m3]
As a result, steel = 33 kg
As a result, overall column weight = concrete weight + steel weight
= 994 + 33 = 1026 kg or 10 KN per floor
While doing calculation, the column self weight is assumed as 10 to 15 KN in accordance with IS standard.
Calculation of load on beam
Consider every meter of beam comprises measurement 230 mm x 450 mm excluding slab.
As a result, concrete volume in beam -
= 0.230 x 0.450 x 1 = 0.138 m3
